Fashion has been part of my life for as long as I can remember — from sewing Barbie dresses with my grandma to designing my own clothes by age 11. I've always had a natural eye for style and a love for creating unique looks.
I studied Fashion Marketing at VCAD, where I learned the business side of the industry — from trend forecasting to visual merchandising. Now, I’m combining my hands-on sewing skills with industry knowledge to build my own brand and bring my creative vision to life.
"Fashion is my Passion"
“Fashion is my passion” This is a familiar phrase in the fashion industry, and can seem overused. However, there is no better way to state my feelings on what I do. For me, the fashion journey was never following fashion trends - or doing everything by the book. Though to be fair, most people’s journeys don’t start that way.
I always had an eye for style and took pride in looking my best anywhere and everywhere I went, and still do to this day.
My first dip into fashion was when I was around 8 years old. I remember sitting next to my grandma for hours just watching her sew, asking lots of questions, and just generally being mesmerized by the process. The first thing I learned to sew was dresses for my Barbie dolls, nothing sophisticated- but it was definitely a start to something much more than a hobby, or an addition to a skills list on my resume. The start of a true passion!
Slowly I taught myself to take on bigger and bigger projects, always seeking help from my grandma who was, and always is, happy to help.
In grade 11 I took a sewing class at my highschool, which was a great way to improve my technique. By that point, I knew what I wanted to do after I graduated- go to Fashion school! That was my vision.
I ended up studying Fashion marketing online, through VCAD. The program gave me an understanding of the ins and outs of the fashion industry. Everything from analyzing trends to visual display and styling. Was it exactly what I thought I was going to do? No- but I wouldn't change it for the world, because it pushed me to build my own business and make a name for myself!
Was it exactly what I thought I was going to do? No, but I wouldn't change it for the world because it pushed me to build a business of my own and make a name for myself!
So now, with the skills of sewing that I learned while growing up, to the industry knowledge from college, I am diving right into the industry. It has definitely been a learning curve, and I’ve admittedly had some struggles- but I believe I can make it if I keep pursuing my lifelong dream. I'm excited to begin this journey and share my designs and industry knowledge with everyone!
With love,
Camila
